Orcas,

We are all greatful for the great weather and the opportunity to spend some time outside during this crisis. We are grateful for the support of so many swimmers and those that are still able to connect with us and grow together through this experience. Generally the feedback from parents has been that the swimmers enjoy being able to connect with their teammates and work on the personal development component of their lives right now. Some of you may be wondering what we’re doing in our meetings? We definitely don’t want swimmers on the computer all day and our goal is to be intentional with our time. We feel these meetings are a great opportunity for your children to socialize with peers, work on learning how to live one’s values, as well as developing the mental side of high performance. We are working on phasing in a workout component but we want to make sure that we have enough coaches to ‘supervise’ these experiences and provide feedback.

  • This week we’re going to do a little more with the schedule for some different groups. For Train, Peform and Challenge there is an afternoon meeting for those that cannot make the morning due to school. Sprint, Explore and Novice will have some additional time as well as an ALL TEAM meeting at 3:00 on Wednesdays. Check your email to find the OC schedule and the Molalla schedule. We are going to see how this goes the next couple of weeks.
  • We’ve had some questions on a timeline for opening up and what that might look like. We will reach out to pool management to see where they are at and begin coordinating what practices may look like once we can head back to the pool.
  • For now we are going to have to put Swim-A-Thon on the back-burner and we hope to move it to the fall.
  • The team banquet is also on hold for now. We are not sure if we’ll be able to bring everyone together to celebrate this spring, or even this summer. We’d love your thoughts and ideas on how we might be able to provide a special send-off to our seniors and recognize all the work our swimmers put in over the last year.

We would love to hear if you have any feedback or questions.

Stay well,

Your OCST Coaches
